bapsteveCome join us for one of the most inspiring experiences of our church year.  We'll be celebrating the baptism of six different people this Sunday, May 1st at 4pm.  We'll gather on the banks of Puffer's pond to hear the stories of each person and see them identify with Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection through the rite of baptism.  Park along State Street and meet us on the beach that is on the State Street Side of the pond.

Summer Missions - Opportunities to pray and give PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Krumrey

This Sunday, April 24, you'll be given the opportunity to connect with some of the MHers that are going out on summer missions.  They are in need of both prayer and financial support and we as a church have an amazing opportunity to partner with them.  Here are some brief descriptions of what each are doing:

MH mission trip with Upward Ventures - contact(at)knowmercy.org

12465973 10153866986214868 4325534635132581308 oA small team of MERCYhouse members will be serving in the Dominican Republic during the month of May. They will be assisting Kevin Moforte in the further developing of a soap factory known as Esperanza Soaps (founded in 2015) in the community of Las Malvinas. Many who live in this community exist on as little as $2/day and suffer daily because of lack of clean drinking water and adequate food. The vision of this factory is to meet physical needs in the name of Christ through social entrepreneurship. This alleviates suffering, creates long-term sustainable solutions to poverty, and builds the necessary trust needed for sharing the gospel. $1400 is needed to help scholarship a portion of the costs being incurred by team members.

Bryan Chua - bchua(at)umass.edu

chuaBryan is a full-time student at UMass Amherst who is pursuing a dual major in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Science. This Summer he is going with Filter of Hope, a Christian NGO, to distribute Hollow Fiber Membrane (HFM) water filters to village homes in the Dominican Republic from July 2-8, 2016. Through the experience, he hopes to learn more about sustainable models for impacting the world with the gospel through meeting real-world needs.

Amy Kulich - amy.kulich(at)gmail.com

amyAmy will be spending her summer with 40 other students from across the world for an intensive spiritual training program sponsored by The Navigators. The Navigators are an international ministry organization dedicated to knowing Christ and making Him known both in the US and abroad. The program is located at Glen Eyrie Conference Center in Colorado Springs, home of the Navigators Headquarters. She has been asked to be a team leader for two months where she will volunteer for the conference center as well as invest in 3-4 other women through Bible study training experiences that will happen throughout the week.

Grant Geddie - geddiegrant(at)gmail.com

geddieGrant is participating in an architectural mission internship from May 21st – July 15th coordinated by Engineering Ministries International. He will spend the majority of the time in Delhi, India. Delhi is an area containing, according to the 2014 UN Population report, 25 million people of which Christianity accounts for only 0.9% of the population. He will be hosted by a local family, learn techniques and standards for architectural design in India, help design structures that will serve the local population, and build relationships with many people – all in the name of Christ.

Nick Duenas - nclsduenas(at)gmail.com

nickNick will be a part of a team of 14 students and staff from the Northeast region who will be serving in Croatia in August. The team will serve as bridge builders, bringing together nationalistic Croats and their marginalized Roma neighbors. One of the main ways they will do this is by partnering with a group of Croatians who are also followers of Jesus and live in Zagreb and Daruvar. Together, they'll extend God's love to underprivileged Roma children through the planning and execution of a weeklong summer camp for the Roma and Croat children. Please give at: navstaff.org/give/23827433.

Leigh Cappabianca - leighcappabianca(at)gmail.com

leighLeigh will be moving to San Jose, Costa Rica in May as a full time missionary with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). She will be working with one of their ministries called Homes of Hope. This ministry builds homes for families who do not have the resources to do so themselves. Homes of Hope seeks to transform families and communities by meeting both physical and spiritual needs. Leigh will be providing updates in quarterly newsletters to keep partners updated on how lives are being transformed by God's word in Latin America. One time donations, long term financial support, or prayer partners would all be much appreciated.

Meghan Berry - meberry(at)umass.edu & Lizzie Stephani - elizabethcstephani(at)gmail.com

meghan

lizzieMeghan and Lizzie will be serving from June 18th to July 19th in South Africa on a Cru summer mission.  We will be going with a team of approximately 20 other students from universities around the U.S. to Pretoria, South Africa. This project is about modeling Jesus to others in both Word and Deed and as such, we will work just outside Pretoria, in South Africa's largest township, Mamelodi, where we will minister to high school youth, college students, families, and other community members. The main focus of our time will be on an educational enrichment program started in June 2010. To learn more, please visit www.mamelodi.org.

Ellen Chow - ellenechow(at)gmail.com

ellenchowEllen will be going on a mission trip this summer and would love some prayer in preparation for and during it. She is going to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June with the Baptist Convention of New England as part of a program called Journey. This program is specifically for youth group leaders who have never been abroad on a mission trip. Ellen writes "I am going because I am beginning to take more of a leadership role back in my home church. I have also recently felt a call to missions and ministry so this trip will be a great opportunity to put everything in God's hands and see where He takes me. You can pray for me that I will have the strength and persistence to continue to walk with God through this process and be willing to enter into His plan for me without hesitation or reservation."  Thankfully she has all of her funds raised for the trip!

Katie Clark - katherinecla(at)umass.edu

katieKatie is working with Athletes in Action this summer on The Puerto Rico Project. The project is intentional to group together athletes from America and Puerto Rico to minister together. They will be learning about how to apply faith to their sport, grow in personal discipleship and experience outreach to local universities in sharing the gospel. This summer she will be returning on the project as an intern which will involve discipling 2 girls as well as helping the AIA staff to lead the activities and bible studies. Any prayer or support would be greatly appreciated! I'm excited for another great summer in this program.
