Mission Las Malvina - a Church-Wide Mission PDF Print E-mail

malvinasLast May 18 MHers went to the city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic to serve a small community of people known as Las Malvinas.  This small pocket of about 300 families represent some of the poorest people on the planet existing off of $2/day.  In our time there, we were able to install a cistern that will be able to deliver water to about 100 of those families.  This May we are going back and plan to put the finishing touches on the cistern project as well as engage in some other opportunities for demonstrating and proclaiming the gospel in the community.

For this to continue this year and for years to come, we need everyone at MH to get involved.  Right now the trip is full with 20 people going.  This is just the beginning.  We need people to be praying for and giving toward the trip.  We estimate that it will cost about $10,000 to cover scholarships (for those who can go but can't pay), work project money, and the March scouting trip coming up next week.  Please prayerfully consider being involved at some level in order to make this happen.

Find out more this Sunday (May 9th).  We'll have a short update on the trip from our trip leader Pedro and an opportunity after each service to find out more and ask questions.  If you can't make it this Sunday, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. burlyman1Next month (February) is retreat season for MERCYhouse.  Every year we host 2 retreats in February - one for men and one for women.  See below for details for both:

Burlyman Retreat (Feb. 21-23)

This year's theme is "Sex".  We'll be looking at what the Bible says about sex - God's original design, the results of using it outside of that design, and how Jesus brings transformation and healing into this area.  There will be teaching times, discussion times, and times to just hang out and have fun.  The retreat is at Pinebrook Camp and cost is $100 which includes lodging, meals, and snacks.  Transportation will be coordinated once people have signed up.  Sign-up by emailing Matt at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Pay at the retreat sign-up table on Sundays or pay online here.

Beloved Retreat (Feb. 28 - Mar. 2)

gals14

This year's theme is "Women in the Word - His statutes our songs".  We'll be exploring the book of First Peter.  There will be times of teaching, small group discussion, and personal reflection on this incredible book of the Bible.  There will also be time to hang out and get to know one another, take a nap, walk in the woods, whatever.  Free time will be built into the retreat Saturday evening after dinner for those attending the Casting Crowns concert at the Mullins Center at UMass.  The retreat is at Pinebrook Camp (30 min away) and the cost is $100 which includes lodging, meals, and snacks. Transportation will be coordinated once people have signed up. Sign-up by emailing Lois at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Renewal of Membership Covenant PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Krumrey

crocus-in-snowThis year we are starting something new that I think will help us better accomplish the mission of making disciples in our church.  It's a yearly renewal of our commitment to the belief and practices of our local body of Christ.  If you are a member of MERCYhouse, then you sat through a 4 hour class that went over our beliefs (the gospel) and practices (the five devotions).  I love these classes and my experience is that most everyone else does too.  It's an exciting time of recounting God's faithfulness to us in the gospel and throughout the short history of MERCYhouse.  It's also a time of committing to the basics of being a disciple (worship, word, prayer, fellowship, mission).

Like everything else in life, we as individuals and as a group suffer from mission creep.  That which we were so attuned to becomes forgotten in the white noise of everyday life.  Jesus has given the church things like gospel preaching, communion, and baptism as reminders to make the main thing the main thing.  We think a yearly renewal of our membership covenant would help to do this as well.

I've attached a PDF of that covenant HERE and would love it if all MERCYhouse members would print that off, prayerfully read through it, recommit to the beliefs and practices of our church, sign the paper, and put it in the offering basket after one of our worship services in the next 3 weeks.

If you'd like to read a more thorough explanation of our belief and practice, you can download our membership booklet HERE.

Not a member?  We'd love for you to become one.  Our next Membership Class is Saturday, February 8th from 10am t0 3pm.  RSVP by contacting Lois and we'll see you there!
