CHURCH COVENANT (Click Here)
It's that time of year again. Time to renew the Church Covenant! Many of you may not know that we have a church covenant or even what one is. Here is a short article to introduce you to the concept of the MERCYhouse church covenant.
1. What is a church covenant?
Covenants are agreements between people and God. We often talk about marriage being a covenant. A promise between bride and groom and God. Church membership is similar except it's not just two people but a whole congregation and God who covenant together in a living breathing organism known as the church. The covenant that is agreed upon contains both certain truths that we all believe AND certain practices that we all commit to express in our day to day lives.
2. Who is responsible for abiding by this covenant?
All official members of our church. You are a member if you've joined by being baptized OR by statement that you were baptized in another church of like doctrine and practice OR by transferring from another Southern Baptist Church. People in all three of these categories must go through our MEET MERCYhouse class before being declared official members. If you are interested in joining, come to our next class on Saturday March, 4th or April 22nd from 10am to 3pm. (RSVP to our church office to attend - contact(at)knowmercy.org).
3. How do I renew the convenant?
Church members are requied by our church constitution to sign the covenant every year. This can be done electronically or by using an actual pen and paper. We will also stand together in both of our worship services on February 19 and publicly affirm this covenant.
4. Do I have to renew it?
You do if you want to continue to be a member of our church with all of the rights and responsibilities that go with that (like voting in our church summits or holding certain offices in the church)
